Desiree Acres Bassets: Day 2 Report

Everyone is doing great - they are all eating well and gaining weight. The first three nights with a new litter are always the hardest but last night went really well - so much so that I am feeling much more rested.

Zinger is such a great mother. She is also eating well and is tolerating Foster and Penny (the cat) being in the house. They both know the rules - you may come no further than the doorway of the puppy room and get out of Zinger's way when she comes out.

Ron will be using the computer all today (and most of the weekend) for work, but I will steal a few minutes to send messages and photos when I can.

One quick note on color - if you are not used to seeing newborn bassets you may wonder about the very pale looking puppy (Pecan Sandy). Most of my Red and Whites are born with the red markings this pale (Foster and Scout included). The other puppies (Hummer and Nutter Butter) are darker already - this is what Zinger looked like when she was born. I can only guess this is a European trait, as Zinger's mom is from Holland. All three puppies will turn into beautiful dark red and whites by the time they are about 4 to 8 weeks old.
